About My Skin
I’m one of the lucky people that can’t remember ever having clear skin. 😊 Since I started my menstrual cycle in the 5th grade, I started to get breakouts which later turned into painful cystic acne in college and my early twenties. I spent a lot of those years hating my skin, hiding my skin under makeup and literally hiding from people not wanting to be seen in public. Although my skin still has issues, I’m at place where I feel a lot more control and can celebrate the progress it has made.
All that said, having acne fueled my obsession with skincare products, technologies and treatments. I have spent thousands of dollars on products, I tried all sorts of alternative and traditional medicines, I brought countless gizmos and gadgets that all promised to give me porcelain, baby bottom skin. I’ve also spent hours researching the best ingredients and testing how my skin would respond.
Youth to the People (YTTP) is one of the few brands that I’ve had my eye on for the last few years but have not tried any of their products. Their philosophy and ingredients align with what I look for in my skincare but none of the products sucked me until the launch of their cleansing balm. Cleansing products, especially cleansing oils and balms, are always the gateway product for me to get into a brand because they’re the easiest to incorporate into my routine. Here is a summary of my thoughts on the Superberry Dream Cleansing Balm from YTTP.
Summary
Price: $34
Key Ingredients from the YTTP site:
- Moringa seed and Jojoba seed oils: These are rich in omegas that will leave your skin soft while melting the makeup and dirt from your face
- Goji, maqui, and acai berries: A trifecta of antioxidants
- Prickly Pear: Also known as cactus extract which is high antioxidants and contains anti-inflammatory and soothing properties
- Oil-Soluble Hyaluronic Acid blend: Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant that helps the skin’s moisture retention
Smell: The YTTP describes the scent as “fruity, juicy and bright” but I don’t get that vibe at all. To me the balm smells like a hint of fruity air, nothing bold or prominent to my nose.
Texture: This cleansing balm is more on the solid side of the spectrum, I have to exert a bit of pressure to scoop out the amount I need with my finger. Once the product is warmed up, its turns into a lightweight oil texture.
My experience: I have found the best use for me is to warm up the balm in the palm of my hands before apply it to my face. This application gives me a better experience rather than applying it to my face directly like I do with some of my favorite cleansing balms. Because this balm is so solid, there are always little chunks of balm that refuse to melt which annoy me lol. Otherwise, the balm emulsifies beautifully when you add water, does a good job removing makeup and sunscreen, and it does not sting my eyes when washing it off. After rinsing off, my skin feels soft and clean with any additional oil residue.
Would I repurchase? This is a solid (pun intended) cleansing balm. It does the job at thoroughly removing the first layer in preparation for a deeper second cleanse. However, I’m not a fan of how hard the texture is and prefer creamier, buttery texture cleansing balms like my holy grail Living Cleansing and Green Clean that melt at first touch and glide across my face like a figure skater on ice.
Until time!
