Like a lot of black girls, I find Lori Harvey to be intriguing. I used to follow her mom Marjorie back in the day when she had a luxury fashion blog where Lori would make appearances every so often. Since then, she’s grown exponentially in visibility and is one of the internet’s celebrity hot gyals.
Lori is known for her mysterious persona so when she started randomly re-posting skincare products and aesthetic inspo to her IG stories I knew a product launch was on the way. As someone who has been obsessed with skincare for most of my life (I’ll get into why in other post), I was curious to see what Lori would have to offer. Once her brand SKNbyLH launched last October, I was on the site to see the products in the line-up because there was not much information online about two important factors I consider when purchasing new skincare; 1. Ingredients and 2. Price point. The brand has 5 core products with prices ranging from $35 – $50 which is comfortable for me. Also, the products don’t contain parabens which has been a key for me since I became ingredient conscious in 2011. Side note, I know the information about parabens being toxic was debunked but I still try to avoid them. I placed my order that day (October 22nd) and received the products on November 9th which is pretty fast considering I live in London.
From the brand I picked up the Goji Berry Cleanser which is a gentle cleanser packed with fruit extracts from pomegranate, mangosteen and of course goji berries which are all strong in antioxidants. If you don’t know, antioxidants protect your skin from damage by neutralizing the free radicals we’re exposed to day to day.
Summary
- Price: $38
- Smell: This cleanser has a faint citrus smell that is not overbearing and doesn’t stay on the skin.
- Texture: The texture is light with slight tacky feeling almost like serum. Its on the runny side and creates a gentle lather when you add water.
- Quality: This is a great morning cleanser for me. It removes any dust or sweat from the night and leaves my skin prepped for the rest of my routine.
- Would I repurchase? While I enjoy using it, it doesn’t have a wow factor for me to buy again for $38. Cleansers are one of the products in my routine that I don’t splurge on because they’re on my face for the shortest amount of time. While it is very important to have a good cleanser for your skin needs, there fantastic ones for $25 or less.
I also picked up the Niacinamide Cream which is touted as luxe moisturizer Niacinamide, Vitamin C, and Hyaluronic Acid help to promote a radiant complexion while moisturizing your skin on the website.
Summary
- Price: $38
- Smell: This moisturizer has the same faint citrus smell as the cleanser
- Texture: It feels like a sort of dense cream at first touch but becomes lightweight as you rub it into your skin
- Quality: I was pleasantly surprised by this product. I brought it to serve as a night cream for the winter months, however I use it as my everyday moisturizer. It’s called a cream but feels almost like a gel when applied to the skin.
- Would I repurchase? Out of the two products I purchased, I loved this one the most. It does leave my skin hydrated as it claims however, I don’t love it more than any of my current favorite moisturizers to buy again.
From the products I tried, I can tell that SKNbyLH is a straightforward brand with products that do the job. I think if you’re someone who doesn’t have many skin concerns and is looking for simple products to use every day, this could be a good option.
Until time!
